The influence of this landmark sire has impacted Angus Genetics around the world and will continue to be felt for all future generations.
He was bred by Quentin Stevik at Des Lacs, North Dakota, who entered him into the 1979 Treasure Bull Test in Montana where he was the top-indexing and $60,000 top-selling bull to Gartner-Denowh Angus Ranch, Sitz Angus Ranch, Basin Angus Ranch and Rollin Rock Angus, all of Montana.
Q A S Traveler 23-4 was the number one bull of the Angus breed fro registrations in 1993 and ranked second in 1991 and 1992, fourth in 1989 and 1990 and eighth in 1994.
For many years he served as the top semen sales bull in the American Breeders Service AI Stud, where the roster previously included his sire, known as Band 105, and his grandsire, known as Band 234.
He is a highly proven carcass sire that is #2 in the breed for REA EPD and #3 for %RP while ranking in the top third for marbling. His unique combination of growth, feed efficiency and carcass merit earned him a +544.92 in the Angus Sire Alliance. He has high growth and low feed intake genetics, which give him the most desirable feed efficiency in the Angus Sire Alliance.
This established sire of proven calving-ease, marbling and maternal genetics has nearly 9,000 daughters in production in the AHIR program and they include many of the breed's all-time most treasured females, including the dams and grandam's of many of the breed's most dominant individuals.
The many important sons of Q A S Traveler 23-4 include the established Pathfinder Sires, D H D Traveler 6807, Traveler 124 G A R, RR Traveler 5204, SS Traveler 6T6, Traveler 1148 GDAR and many, many more.
A wide array of grandsons, like O C C Emblazon 854E, and great grandsons, like O C C Juneau 807J, are also making their mark on the industry.
